LOUISIANA ENGINEERING SOCIETY
NEW ORLEANS CHAPTER FALL GOLF TOURNAMENT
It’s time again for the NOLES annual golf tournament! We were unable to hold our tournament last year so we are hoping for a big turn out this year. The tournament will be held on Friday, October 29th at the Audubon Park Golf club. You can find more information under Chapter Events or by clicking here!
We would like to extend a special thank you to our outgoing president Raoul Chauvin for the dedication you have shown our organization over the last two years. Your leadership helped to guide NOLES through very trying times. Thank you!
President's Monthly Chapter Message
Louisiana Engineering Society – New Orleans Chapter
President’s Summer Break Message
I would like to introduce myself as your newly elected New Orleans LES Chapter president. I am originally from Chalmette, LA and currently reside in Mandeville, LA. I received my Civil Engineering degree from the University of Virginia in 2002 and am the Chief Engineer at Infinity Engineering Consultants, where I have spent the majority of my 19- year career. I am excited to have this opportunity to lead the New Orleans Chapter this year to work toward the LES mission of advancing the engineering profession.
Our last meeting for this term year was a Joint LES-IEEE dinner meeting held on May 19, 2021 at Southport Hall and was titled “The Impact of Increased Renewable Electric Generation on the Power Grid”. The presentation was given by Mike McAnelly, P.E., the President of Power & Control Systems-2000 (PCS2000). Mr. McAnelly covered some of the fundamentals of frequency governor response and voltage regulation and compared traditional to renewable generation technologies and the impact on the grid.
This meeting also served as our New Annual Sponsors Night in which some of our top sponsors had tables with give-aways and company literature. Being held at Southport Hall we encouraged social networking before and after the presentation. After the presentation, we held and after party with music for which Southport Hall is famous. All in all, we had almost 70 people in attendance. We intend to repeat this type of meeting format at the end of each term year in May since it was very successful.
Overall, this term year we held eight monthly meeting with topics ranging from drainage and flood control, to NASA programs, to Engineering, to industry and business outlooks, to Renewable Power, along with two ethics presentations. Due to COVID-19 our Chapter Sponsorship Program brough in less than previous years and our annual golf tournament had to be cancelled. This had a big impact, but due to great fund raising in prior years we were able to ride through the storm and still support our scholarships and donations to STEM education. So far, our sponsorship program and golf tournament for the 2021-2022 term is off to a good start (See details below).
Despite a lower-than-expected income year, we still funded the middle school MATHCOUNTS program, FRC FIRST Bayou Robotics Competition in March, and the Tulane Engineering Forums. In addition, we funded four $1000.00 chapter level scholarships which were awarded at our May meeting to the following engineering students: Dondy Dorlus, Southern, EE; Courtland Adaire, La. Tech, ME; Ammar Naser, UNO, ME; and Claudio Aguirre, UNO, NAME.

Again, this term year we will offer cross-benefits between the higher value Chapter and Golf sponsors, such as complimentary players, cross-sponsor logos, etc. These extra benefits are explained in more detail in both before mentioned links.
I would like to take this time to thank our members and sponsors and I hope you and your families will have a safe and enjoyable summer vacation.
Rachel Kenney, P.E.
