Louisiana Engineering Society – New Orleans Chapter

The entire board of the New Orleans chapter of LES hope and yours had a safe and happy St. Patrick’s Day.  Engineers work in a wide range of capacities and hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public.

March NO-LES meeting for the 2022-2023 season will be on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.  Mr. Mitchell Theriot, Director of the Department of Engineering for Jefferson Parish will be joining to discuss Jefferson Parish Drainage Department Staffing, Operations, Recent and Current Capital Projects.

Mitch has served as the Assistant Director and Director of Drainage 15 years, Chief Engineer of Roads and Bridges 4 years, Engineer for the Water Department 4 years, Director of the Water Department 1 year, Engineer in the Engineering Department 1.5 years.

The dinner meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at 6pm.  Meeting registration starts at 5:30pm at Don’s Seafood Hut, 4801 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Metairie, LA 70006. For More information or to register please click here.

Please register as soon as possible! Online registration will be available with printed name tags until 5 pm the day before, registration the day of will be available without a printed name tag the day of the meeting.

Please note that students can register for $5.00 which will be reimbursed at the door with a valid student ID.

One PDH will be earned for all registered attendees in person or remote.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the successful in-person MATHCOUNTS event especially our local MATHCOUNTS coordinator, Ms. Leah Read who led us out of several years of remote activity due to Covid. The MATHCOUNTS state event is Friday, March 24th and volunteers are needed.  If you would like to help for the day of March 24th in Alexandria, LA, please email NOLES1897@gmail.com with your contact information.

We are also continuing our association with the First (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) program.  Mr. Louis Jackson is a FIRST Louisiana Senior Mentors and is working with LES NOLA to promote and expand FIRST.  FIRST seeks to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.

Additionally, the Tulane Engineering Forum, a one-day event is being held on Friday, March 31, 2023.  The Forum provides an opportunity for professionals to attend seminars from industry and academic experts and receive PDH credits.  Attendance at the forum can be in person or online.  Registered Professional Engineers can earn up to twenty (20) PDH credits, including one (1) Ethics credit.  Information including registration plus the complete program for the Forum can be found at tef.tulane.edu.  The seminars from this year and previous years Forums are available as video on demand for a small fee.
